Kee Guard® for Ladder Access

Protection at a dangerous transition

One of the most dangerous points of the roof is the transition point between the roof and the ladder. Kee Guard^® for Ladder Access provides a layer of fall protection right where it's needed. The guard railing flanks the access point, ensuring a safe approach. Kee Gate^® is a self-closing safety gate that ensures that the ladder access point is approached in intentionally. Finally, the surrounding supports ensure that there are plenty of support when making the transition on and off the roof.

Roof edge protection

On a flat or low slope roof, a protected perimeter limits access to the leading edge. Installing a modular, free-standing railing system that does not penetrate the roof membrane provides a permanent, safe and dependable barrier for the roof edge.

- Can I use alternative fall protection methods (anchor points/warning line) as protection at rooftop access points?
  
  No. OSHA is very clear in 1910.28(b)(3)(iv) that only railing and a self-closing gate are acceptable means of fall protection at rooftop access points.
- Will the gate pinch my fingers while I climb through the top of the ladder?
  
  The gate on KeeGuard Ladder Kits are attached to the railing and not the ladder. This enables you to transition onto the roof and push through the gate with your body – no hands needed!
- Can the KeeGuard Ladder Kit be designed as a “shoot” to direct traffic to the center of the roof?
  
  Yes, KeeGuard ladder kit can be installed along the roof edge to protect the fall hazard, or in 2 parallel lines to direct traffic to the center of the roof.
- Is protection needed on ladders between roof levels?
  
  OSHA requires all access points 4’ or higher above an adjacent level to be protected, regardless if the lower level is a roof, the ground, or a work platform.
- How does the railing attach to the sides of the ladder?
  
  Our SL109 Clamps are designed to clamp onto nearly any ladder style, no drilling or welding necessary.
