As Canada prepares to host matches during the upcoming FIFA World Cup, stadium infrastructure and operational safety continue to play a critical role in supporting world-class sporting events. At BMO Field in Toronto, elevated maintenance areas required a compliant fall protection solution that would allow personnel to safely access confined service spaces above the concession-side suites.
FIFA, the global governing body for international soccer, partnered with PCL and Kee Safety to implement a specialized rooftop and elevated-access safety system to support ongoing maintenance activities while preserving the integrity of the stadium structure.
To address these requirements, Kee Safety supplied and installed a combination of Kee Anchor and Kee Line fall protection systems designed specifically for complex stadium environments.
Safe access solutions are essential for supporting ongoing maintenance in world-class sports facilities.
As part of ongoing stadium upgrades, additional TVs, replay monitors, and supporting cabling infrastructure were installed throughout BMO Field’s concession-side suites. These additions created the need for maintenance personnel to safely access elevated and confined areas located above the suites for inspections, servicing, and future upgrades.
However, the project presented several unique challenges:
With FIFA World Cup activities approaching in Canada, ensuring safe and efficient facility access was essential to maintaining operational readiness and compliance standards.
Kee Safety installed a fully engineered combination of Kee Anchor and Kee Line systems to provide safe, continuous fall protection throughout the elevated maintenance areas.
The non-penetrating design allowed the systems to be installed without impacting the stadium’s roofing membrane, waterproofing systems, or structural integrity. This approach helped preserve existing warranties while eliminating the risks associated with traditional penetrative anchor solutions.
The Kee Line horizontal lifeline system provides continuous tie-off protection, allowing workers to move safely through elevated access areas while remaining securely connected at all times. Kee Anchor systems complemented the installation by providing certified anchorage points in critical maintenance zones.
The modular nature of the systems also enabled efficient installation within the confined stadium environment while minimizing operational interruptions.
Modern stadium environments require safety solutions that protect both workers and critical infrastructure.
The installation delivered several important operational and safety advantages:
By implementing a non-penetrating fall protection system, FIFA was able to improve worker safety while protecting the long-term integrity of the facility.
As Toronto prepares to welcome international visitors and global sporting events during the FIFA World Cup period, maintaining safe and compliant stadium infrastructure remains a top priority.
Through the installation of Kee Anchor and Kee Line systems at BMO Field, Kee Safety delivered a reliable, non-invasive fall protection solution that supports ongoing maintenance operations while preserving the integrity of the stadium structure. The client was highly satisfied with the convenience and effectiveness of the solution, particularly its ability to achieve compliance without disrupting existing roofing systems or facility operations.
This project demonstrates how engineered fall protection systems can help large venues safely support complex maintenance requirements while preparing for world-class events.
