The Town of Banff Fleet Transit Services required a safer way to protect workers performing maintenance on its municipal bus fleet after an OH&S inspection identified several fall hazards within the maintenance facility.
Kee Safety designed and supplied a compliant maintenance pit protection solution that improved worker safety while allowing maintenance activities to continue without interruption.
Kee Safety delivered a compliant solution that improved worker safety without disrupting daily fleet operations.
The Town of Banff operates and maintains a fleet of public transit buses that are serviced inside a dedicated maintenance facility equipped with a 55-foot-long in-ground service pit. During a routine OH&S inspection, several safety concerns were identified around the pit area that required immediate corrective action.
The existing rope-and-stanchion barrier system no longer met workplace safety requirements and did not provide adequate protection against falls. Inspectors also identified that the access stairs leading into the maintenance pit required compliant handrails to improve worker safety.
Because the maintenance facility supports daily transit operations, the Town needed a solution that would eliminate fall hazards without creating obstacles for technicians servicing buses throughout the day.
Kee Safety worked closely with the Town of Banff to design a practical fall protection solution tailored to the operational requirements of the maintenance facility.
The project combined PitProtect maintenance pit protection with Kee Klamp handrail systems to create a safer working environment around the service pit while maintaining full access for maintenance personnel.
Unlike temporary barriers, the new system provides robust protection around open pit areas and allows sections to be moved or adjusted when buses are positioned over the maintenance pit. This enables technicians to work efficiently without compromising safety or regulatory compliance.
The addition of compliant handrails also improves safe entry and exit from the maintenance pit, reducing slip and fall risks for maintenance staff.
By combining PitProtect and Kee Klamp systems, the Town of Banff now has a safer, fully compliant maintenance facility.
Following installation, the maintenance facility now benefits from a significantly safer working environment that supports both compliance and productivity.
By partnering with Kee Safety, the Town of Banff transformed its bus maintenance facility into a safer and more compliant workplace. The new fall protection system eliminates critical hazards identified during the OH&S inspection while allowing technicians to continue servicing transit vehicles efficiently.
The result is a maintenance environment that better protects workers, supports regulatory compliance, and provides the municipality with a dependable long-term safety solution that aligns with the demands of everyday fleet maintenance.
